Chenda, Kerala Chenda Melam, Chenda Drum Kerala, Chenda Adamthala. The loud and harsh sound of the chenda makes it one of the rare instruments in this world. Chenda is a cylindrical wooden drum about two feet in length and one foot in diameter. Both the sides of the chenda are covered with skin. Although the chenda has two faces, only one of its surfaces is beaten. The drummer suspends the chenda from his neck such that it hangs more or less vertically and with two sticks in both hands, he strikes the upper part.
